The Nordmen fall to the Northern Lights in the battle of the North. The Lights gave a strong performance in their season opener, beating the Nordmen 31-14 (14-14).

Week 2 didn’t go as planned for the Nordmen as the Warriors of the Four Winds embarked on a short trip to Oulu and got sent back home with a loss. The Nordmen started the game well with WR Alfonso Ikäheimo catching 2 touchdown passes from QB Lucas Martinez. The defense played a great first half, but the Northern Lights offense kept up and made it 14-14 at halftime. After a hard fought first half, Oulu started to get ahead. The home team blocked a punt for a safety to turn the tide of the game. The Lights defense led by the god of hair LB Aleksi Statsevich were able to adjust after the half and completely turned down the Nordmen offense. Statsevich led the defense with 1 pick and a pick-six. The Lights offense kept driving the ball against the stout Nordmen defense, but it was too much for them. The Nordmen offensive struggles led to the defense being on the field too much, which gave the Lights the chances to score.

The Nordmen offense was led by Alfonso Ikäheimo racking up 175 yards and 2 TDs, defensively Aurélien Germay had another big game racking up 2 picks and hitting double digits with tackles. It is clear that the Nordmen are still suffering some growing pains, but are getting better week by week. One week to prepare for the home opener against the Bouncers and then a mid-summer break to work out the kinks. Defensively the Nordmen have been very good in both games, the offense has had its struggles and will look to grow as they wait to explode for a big performance.

Here is what Coach Ashton had to say after the game:Coach Taina had a good game-plan for us and adjusted well on what we were doing. They were the better team that day. There are some kinks we need to figure out, but we will get there.”

The Nordmen will face the Bouncers next week for their home opener. Stay tuned for more!
