Playmakers Added to Nordmen Offense
With less than two months until the season opener, the Rovaniemi Nordmen have strengthened their air raid offense with the addition of wide receivers Jens Ole Kaae Jensen (Denmark) and Ondrej Chmela (Czech Republic). Both men have been nominated to their respective national teams and have signed with teams from abroad previously.
Jens Ole Kaae Jensen has established himself as one of the top playmakers in Denmark.
Jensen (188 cm, 98 kg) comes to Rovaniemi from the Aalborg 89ers in the Danish National League. In 2019, Jensen finished 3rd in the Danish National League with 100.3 yards receiving per game while adding 6 touchdowns, 12 tackles, and 2 interceptions on the defensive side of the ball. In 2018, Jensen played with the Koc Rams of Turkey and advanced to the Central European Football League (CEFL) against the Swarco Tirol Raiders of Austria. In 2017, he led the 89ers with 39 receptions for 700 yards and 7 touchdowns. He is a versatile player with a great mix of size, speed, athleticism, and physicality that will surely help the Nordmen on both sides of the ball.
Chmela (180 cm, 86 kg) comes to the Nordmen from the Ostrava Steelers in the Czech National League. Chmela earned Team Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2019 as he led the Steelers to the Czech Bowl against perennial powerhouse Prague Lions. Chmela finished the season with 43 receptions for 704 yards and 4 touchdowns. He signed with the Kirchdorf Wildcats of the German Football League in 2020, but the season was unfortunately cancelled due to Covid-19. Chmela is a skilled route runner that catches everything in his radius and is excited to show what he can do in a different country.
Ondrej Chmela had 4 receptions for 72 yards in the 2019 Czech Bowl.
Nordmen head coach/quarterback Stan Bedwell is excited to add two talented pass catchers to the Nordmen’s young and inexperienced receiving corp.
“In order to run our offensive system, it’s important to have multiple receiving threats on the field at the same time. With Hannes Harju’s departure to the Kuopio Steelers, it was vital that we added a couple of quality targets to compliment Alfonso Ikäheimo (2020 SAJL 1st Division All-Star & receptions leader). With the signing of Jens and Ondrej, we’ve picked up two guys that will be top level playmakers in our division. Both also have years of coaching experience that should help develop our young guys like Simon Kolehmainen.”
