The Rovaniemi Nordmen will be playing in a higher division and in one of the best stadiums in Finland for the 2020 season, as they will call Rovaniemen Keskuskenttä their new primary home.

Formally confirmed on November 6th, the Rovaniemi Nordmen will be relocating their primary home field from Susivouti to Rovaniemen Keskuskenttä for the 2020 season. Scheduling for games will be determined by Rovaniemen Palloseura’s (RoPS) home schedule, as well, but the freshly selected board for the Nordmen does not see this as a major issue. “As soon as RoPS gets their schedule and we get the preliminary schedule from the SAJL, we will work everything out. It’s still a long way until the kickoff of the 2020 season, but we’re incredibly excited about this opportunity to play at Keskuskenttä; especially after the success we had in hosting the 2019 Rautamalja,” Vice Chairman, Robbie Patterson commented.

The Nordmen played the 2nd Division Championship at Keskuskenttä in September, marking the first time in 20 years that American football had been played in downtown Rovaniemi. Moving from Susivouti to Keskuskenttä will also provide the Nordmen with the ability to create a more professional and exciting atmosphere; as well as the opportunity to generate greater revenue for the team. “We had a great crowd for the Rautamalja back in September with about 1000 people in the stands. We only had a week to prepare for that game and we busted our butts to do the best that we could. We see this as an opportunity to establish an actual culture and following for this sport in Rovaniemi, similar to that of what they do in the USA. Tailgating parties, half-time shows, fan engagement and fun is what we are looking to really grow, along with our continued improvement on the field,” Patterson added.

The 2020 preliminary roster for the Nordmen was also released today, with 30 players currently encompassing the squad for the upcoming, 2020 campaign.
