Following the announcement of British lineman Jonathan Ashton earlier this week, the Nordmen have further strengthened their offensive line with the addition of dual-passport German-American, Alex Malchow.

After playing four years at Denison University in the United States, Malchow began his European career with the Hämeenlinna Huskies in 2017. From there, he went on to play with the Nice Dauphins (2nd league France) in the first half of 2018 before joining the Allgäu Comets in the GFL during the summer where he immediately earned a starting role. Malchow again made a “step up” in 2019 as the center for the Hildesheim Invaders, who advanced to the semi-finals of the GFL and finished the season ranked #6 in Europe. In 2020, Malchow was set to play for the Basel Gladiators in Switzerland before Covid hit.

Although undersized, Malchow has proven to be one of the top linemen playing in Europe. His technique and deceptive strength have allowed him to make an impact everywhere he has been. His level of play was noticed by the Podyum, who named him one of the top 5 North American offensive linemen playing in Europe.

Nordmen head coach/quarterback Stan Bedwell was quick to express his excitement about the addition of Malchow.

“Alex is a guy that I have a ton of respect for. He’s a tenacious competitor that finds a way to get the job done regardless of who is lined up across from him. He was awesome for us with the Huskies in 2017 and he’ll be an instant leader in the Nordmen locker room. He’s the type of person that everyone likes to be around. You won’t find anyone, anywhere that has a bad thing to say about him. With the addition of Alex and Jonny (Ashton), our offensive line will be well-coached, disciplined, and physical.”

The veteran offensive lineman is equally happy to be back in Finland.

“I’m excited to return to Finland where my European career started. I can’t wait to help build the Nordmen football club and unleash the potential of the team up north!”

Alex is also a writer for the American Football International website. He is currently finishing up his Master’s Degree in London, but will be heading to Finland in April to join his new team.
